DOCKING With respect to the Browning Island
dock, some repair work has been completed, notably the hole in the surface of
the Federal Wharf. A boom truck knocked the light pole over (a hole in the surface
of the dock resulted) and the light is to be replaced, perhaps by now! Some cleats
have been replaced and some of the dangerously elevated planks along the walkway
have been removed and, as of late summer, covered over with plywood, which is
particularly SLIPPERY when wet. I hope this will be corrected by spring. I
found the most interesting comment from Mr. Coates, however, to be his comment
that he has been advised that the Browning Island dock "... has essentially
reached the end of its useful life and reconstruction will need to be considered
as a budget item by Council in the very near future." Modest repairs have
been completed but I would suggest that little beyond essential safety concerns
will be addressed from this point on! Posted parking limits for the Browning
Island dock of 4 HOURS will be enforced on FRIDAY-SATURDAY-SUNDAY of July and
August, the same as last year, as both by-law enforcement and users seem to feel
this system has worked well. John Rayworth, Docking and Parking
